The Pastor's Point (An Introduction)

Having lived in Colorado the past several years, one of the most beautiful places I have discovered are  canyon rims.  These are highly elevated points that overlook deep valleys, often with a river or stream flowing through it.  If you have ever stood on the edge of such a rim, you know the beauty and serenity of such a place. Perhaps the most well-known canyon rims are found at the Grand Canyon, yet you can find breathtaking rims all throughout the mountain west.  The locals often refer to these rims as "points." In fact, many landowners often refer to a specific canyon rim on their property as being their "point."  (And every landowner seems to at least have one.)

What I love most about such "points" is the view. You can see for miles and miles away.  From such a point, you get a greater perspective of the land surrounding you.  They are truly special places.

This is precisely the reason I have chosen to name this blog "The Pastor's Point."  After several years of pastoring, God has often placed me on the edge of such a point and enabled me to gain a greater perspective of what is going on in the world around me. Now, I certainly don't claim to have any superior knowledge or special revelation, but as I have walked with God and studied His Word, God has taught me some wonderful things throughout the years that I feel compelled to share with others.

Much of what I will share here will be biblical truth.  Some of it will be my own personal opinion or testimony.  But, every word will be shared with the intention of encouraging, edifying, equipping and engaging you with a biblical truth. My goal is to bring you along with me to a point from which you can see the world around you with a greater perspective - a biblical perspective.

Thanks for reading. May God use it to be a blessing to you!

Biblical Voter Guide 2025

One of the great privileges with which God has blessed us in American society is the freedom to vote . This is a God-given right that God expects us to steward for His glory. In Romans 13:7 the Bible says, “ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom .” Believers have the unique opportunity in America to vote for candidates and policies that most align with Scripture and can most perpetuate the principles that can bring God’s blessing on a nation. Beyond the biblical mandate, there is a civic mandate for the citizens of this country to vote. Our government was formed to function by citizen participation. Men and women have died to secure to us this freedom. Therefore, it behooves us to exercise our right to vote, however much we may disagree with candidates or issues. As you prepare to vote this November, there are several resources available to guide you. Let me share with you three resources about w...

Tech Timeout // Lessons Learned from a Digital Fast

Recently, God placed it on my heart to step away (fast) from all media for a month. This burden was born within me after I read Charlie Kirk's last book on the sabbath. In it he makes a compelling case for just how much the digital age is devastating our society. The incessant dopamine drip of digital consumption is fracturing our relationships, robbing us of sleep, ravaging our health, hollowing out our souls and districting us from what life is really all about. Honestly, I really didn't think I had a big problem with media consumption. But, in the process of stepping away I discovered that it had a far deeper hold on my life than I had realized. Stepping away was far more challenging than I ever imagined it would be. But, in the process of doing so, God taught me some valuable lessons. Please allow me to share some of them with you here. A media fast enhances your walk with God. While spending daily time with God has been my practice for quite some time, the subtle temptati...

What You Miss When You Miss Church (Part 1)

The gathering together of God's people in a public assembly is one of the closest things to heaven that we can experience on this earth.  There is nothing in this world quite so sweet and precious as a band of believers gathering together to worship Jesus, study God's Word, share burdens, pray for one another, make decisions of faith and declare the gospel.  The longer I live, the more important and significant the gathering of the church becomes to me. Because of this, it truly astounds me how anyone would want to miss this special gathering of the church.  As a pastor, it absolutely confounds me to see people who claim to be struggling continue to find reasons not to come to the exact place where they could get the encouragement and help they need for what they are facing. Certainly, going to church does not make one better than anyone else, yet the public assembly of the church is something that God has commanded His people to "not forsake" for a reason. (Hebrews 1...
